But as you say, if Apple step up to the mark and rethink the iPhones shortcomings, the ball park will no doubt change again. Let the battle commence!

Actually, I have to say, I’m actually half thinking about going with something different when my iPhone contract ends. The iPhone is brilliant, but it still has lots of functionality issues that need resolving. The lack of background apps is a huge problem in my opinion, and the battery life is just infuriating – I’ve had to switch off push email to ensure I can get through the day on a single charge. Heaven forbid you should actually play a game or use the GPS. It’s not even as though Apple don’t know how to make a good battery – all Apple laptops massively outperform their PC counterparts on battery life.

The lack of camera flash etc. doesn’t bother me. If I want to take a photo I’ll use a real camera thanks. And, I like the application moderation. Development is not “closed” as the ad suggests, it’s just that apps are properly moderated and distributed through a central source. This ensures consistent interface, security and stability. It also gives small developers an opportunity to make their apps a huge success.

Apple will no doubt come out with a new better iPhone to moot all these points. They’ll probably do it just after I’ve upgraded to an inferior model…
