Who Is Mike?

An experienced head of IT having worked in the sector for over 10 years; I specialise in Microsoft server and client technologies and currently hold both Microsoft MCSE and MCSA certifications.  Both of these certifications also have the security specialisations attached.  To date, a large amount of my time has been spent working in the broadcast industry, providing hands on IT support, management and training for some of the country’s largest and well known radio groups.  Further, I also work with a number of SME businesses in a consultancy capacity identifying and delivering solutions for specific business requirements; this can be either on an ad-hoc basis or over a longer period of time, providing a ‘virtual’ IT Manager where budget or circumstance do not allow the company to have their own on staff.

Very much still hands on my technical skills are diverse and include:

  • Microsoft server and client operating systems; all versions
  • Microsoft server technologies including Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, ISA, IIS, WINS, WSUS and TS
  • Network technologies including TCP/IPv4, TCP/IPv6, UDP, NetBIOS, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS and VPN; design and administration
  • Web technologies including HTML, PHP, CSS and JavaScript
  • Virtualisation; Citrix and VMware
  • Linux and Mac OS X interoperability within the Windows® environment
  • VERITAS and Symantec Backup EXEC solutions
  • Cisco, FortiGuard, Netscreen and Draytek security products

To complement my existing skills and experience, I am also currently studying for a BSc (Hons) in Computing and Mathematical Sciences.
